Historical Timeline

Trace the evolution of AHL and Malawi’s tobacco selling floors, from the establishment of Tobacco Auctions Limited in 1936 to the formation of AHL Tobacco Sales Limited in 2019.

  • Tobacco Auctions Limited

    AHL Group Plc was incorporated in 1936 as Tobacco Auctions Limited.

  • Auction Holdings Nyasaland Limited

    Tobacco Auctions Limited merged with Producers and Warehouse Limited in 1962 and was called Auction Holdings Nyasaland Limited.

  • Auction Holdings Limited

    Soon after independence, it was renamed Auction Holdings Limited in 1965.

  • Lilongwe Floors

    Increased tobacco production over the years created demand for more markets to be opened. This necessitated the opening of Lilongwe Floors.

  • Mzuzu

    Increased tobacco production over the years created demand for more markets to be opened. This necessitated the opening of Mzuzu.

  • Chinkhoma

    Increased tobacco production over the years created demand for more markets to be opened. This necessitated the opening of Chinkhoma.

  • AHL Tobacco Sales Limited

    AHL Tobacco Sales Limited (AHL-TS) was incorporated in 2019 as a limited liability company mandated to operate the tobacco selling floors in Malawi, in compliance with the Tobacco Industry Act 2019.

  • Sole Licensed Tobacco Selling Floors Operator in Malawi

    Since its incorporation in 2019 and having taken over the floors operations from its holding Company, AHL Tobacco Sales Limited is currently the sole licensed tobacco selling floors operator in Malawi and manages the tobacco selling floors in Lilongwe, Limbe, Mzuzu and Chinkhoma. AHL Tobacco Sales Limited also operates satellite markets in rural areas on demand.
