The history of AHL Tobacco Sales Limited
Prior to its incorporation as a standalone Company in 2019 in compliance with the Tobacco Industry Act 2019, the tobacco selling floors were managed by its holding Company, AHL Group Plc which was incorporated in 1936 as Tobacco Auctions Limited
Tobacco Auctions Limited merged with Producers and Warehouse Limited in 1962 and was called Auction Holdings Nyasaland Limited. Soon after independence, it was renamed Auction Holdings Limited in 1965.
By then, there was only one market which was Limbe Auction Floors. Increased tobacco production over the years created demand for more markets to be opened. This necessitated the opening of Lilongwe Floors (1979) , Mzuzu (1996) and Chinkhoma (2005). Since its incorporation in 2019 and having taken over the floors operations from its holding Company, AHL Tobacco Sales Limited is currently the sole licensed tobacco selling floors operator in Malawi and manages the tobacco selling floors in Lilongwe, Limbe, Mzuzu and Chinkhoma. AHL Tobacco Sales Limited also operates satellite markets in rural areas on demand.
