Lilongwe Auction Floors, situated in the industrial hub of Kanengo, is the largest and highest-volume tobacco trading facility in Malawi. Built to accommodate the explosive growth of tobacco production across the Central Region, the floor was engineered as a massive industrial complex capable of handling millions of kilograms of leaf each marketing season.

The facility was officially opened in 1979 under Auction Holdings Limited, becoming the second official selling floor in the national network. Its construction was vital to relieving the overwhelming congestion at the Limbe floor and bringing trading infrastructure directly to the central farming belt, which rapidly grew to produce the lion’s share of the country’s total annual crop.

The primary leaf types sold at Lilongwe are Burley tobacco and Flue-Cured Virginia (FCV). As the central giant of the AHL Tobacco Sales network, Kanengo features extensive warehouse floor space, advanced electronic weighing and cataloging systems, and comprehensive facilities for contract and auction sales, hosting the largest concentration of international buying company representatives in the nation.

Operating at the heart of Malawi’s tobacco belt, the Lilongwe floor opens at the very start of the selling season and consistently sets the national benchmark for daily sales volumes and average market prices. Today, as the operational center of AHL Tobacco Sales Limited, Kanengo remains the vital engine powering the country’s green gold economy.
